Blues and the Eighties

Hi! We are back in business, updating you of the latest events in our lives. We are going to start with the fact that our half-way-though has already been surpassed, at least the theoretical line of 1 and 1/2 years in the US. Yes, we are already so far! It has been an unbelievable, enjoyable and joyful experience, where we have come across quite a few people that will always be remembered in our lives. Also the intercultural exchange has been very successful, so we can just hope for at least the same level of experience for the half to come in order to feel happy as one can be.

In this entry we can to do a summary of our latest weekends: in the summer, the temperatures go up to livable levels (if you want to read the entry about our previous visit click here) and we spend time outside, or organize nice events with our lovely friends here. But let's go in timeline.

First Event: Chicago Blues Festival

We knew about this event though some friends that wanted to visit Chicago during the Chicago Blues Festival, the largest free blues festival in the world, and the largest music festival in Chicago. This makes of Chicago the "Blues Capital of the World".

This was our second stay in Chicago, this time with much nicer weather, good company, and incredible live music, even better given that the entrance was free.

The apartment was in the center, if I remember correctly it was on the 15th floor, with all windows made of glass, which gave incredible views of the city. Andres spent some time perfecting the art of photography from the balcony

We even had the chance to watch the fireworks from the balcony, which take place every Saturday in summertime

Chicago itself is one of the cities where architecture has an important role. And where there's architectonic beauty, there's also space for beautiful photography:

last but not least, I want to share some pictures of the main event we were visiting, the Blues Festival. The program lasts the whole weekend, at it takes place in different locations in the city, we only visited the one close to the Millennium Park. The weather was amazingly good.

Second Event: Andres' 30th Birthday Party

Yes, Andres turned 30 in June, and I decided he needed a birthday party that differed from the usual. Given the fact that he was born in the 80's, we threw a 80's Party! Also on this day we got lucky with the weather, so we could spend some time outside. Here are some pictures of what was a concentration of bright colors and out-of-date styles, that we complemented with the best music there is, the 80's pop and rock!

We even had a contest for the best costumes. Here are the three winners (notice that they were all men, in fact there was no votes for women. Men took it very seriously, or so it seems ;))

A Group Photo summarizes the fun that we had that evening and part of the night.

Since Andres had to help organize the whole thing, it could not be a surprise party. But there was a surprise, I had sent a survey about Andres to friends and family, and we shared the results with him that night. Here is the link if you're interested.

And this ends the entry for the halfway in the US, we hope you still find our entries interesting, as we keep seeking new things to explore in this country full of nice surprises.
