Who said moving to the States is easy?!?

After almost four months of preparations, ups and downs, fights and laughs, the time for making the first entry in our blog has come.

On January, 3rd we will be travelling to the United States of America (from now on, the US ;-) and spend there three years of our lives. But something shall not be forgotten, it is not just three years of our lives but the lives of our families, friends and people that care about us. We know that, mainly at the beginning, it will be a difficult time for all, as we will have the feeling that somebody just disappeared from our lives...

This blog is the chance we take to communicate in a different way with all these persons, the chance to show them in a written and visual form the different surprises, challenges and exciting things that we will encounter along our paths and maybe, if we are successful, the tool we would like to use to close the big gap that will separate us from you.

Last Monday the relocation company came to pack all our stuff in to a 40ft container (2,39m x 2,325m x 12,032m)
Can you imagine who much room did our furniture, clothes, carpets, bikes, kitchen things, etc?.....

......are you sure?

......Got it?

Not even half of the container! If your guess was close to this I think you might be a better engineer than I am.

For disassembling the furniture, packing all our things in to boxes using paper and bubble wrap and loading the container the three professionals only needed 8 hours.

In parallel, as the entire moving thing was not stressful enough, I had an appointment with a potential buyer of our car. After two weeks advertising the car in the most popular websites in Germany, only two people contacted me. Luckily enough, the one I had the appointment with, was the one that bought the car; in cash! I had never seen a person that was so careful when buying a car. There was literally no button, that he did not touch (and check for its purpose), the was no rubber pipe that he did not feel to see if there where any leakages, there was no square inch that he did not check to make sure the body painting was "picco bello".

That day was one of the most exhausting ones that I have had in my entire life....
and from that point of time, we had no car and no home....

To be on the safe side we had planned four more days to accomplish the rest of the things we had on our To-Do list. "Renovating" the apartment to give it back to the landlord was the first one in our TOP10. In Germany when you rent, at the time you get the keys, you perform an inspection of all the rooms in order to document the things that are not OK. That way, if you can life with the several deficiencies, you can move in, live in the place until you want to move to a different location and return it in the same conditions that you got it. This is of course always subjective to the mood of the landlord and next tenant, and this does not always go as expected.

On december, 22nd, later than we usually do, Lita and I took different paths with the purpose of enjoying our families one more time in such happy times;-)

I hope you liked the first entry and please feel free to leave a comment!

Merry Christmas!
