Getting in to our new temporary home

Our stomachs and feelings have been feeling like on a roller coaster for the last couple of weeks (not just because of the food during the festivities :-). Sometimes we have been excited about getting to our new "home" and sometimes sick of sadness because we had to "leave behind" everything we had known up to that point of time.

Lita and I met again on December 2nd, after ten very pleasant days with our families. It was kind of hard going in the exact opposite directions for celebrating Christmas and New Year's Eve just before starting our biggest adventure so far.... nevertheless, enjoying our families as much as we could was our biggest motivation to act that way.

After a quite short sleep, we woke up and enjoyed a wonderful "kanelbulle" that my grandfather had prepared before leaving the hotel. As we were flying business class we had the option to go to the lounge and enjoy the breakfast (and save 30€/person that the hotel was asking for!!! xD).

Our plane took off as scheduled at 9:45 am from the gate D8 in Terminal 2 of the Frankfurt Airport (you could well say that it was operated by a German company....but this time it was not). Our seats were 1B and 1C and as you can see in the photos, we really enjoyed them:-)

During the nine hour flight we had time for everything, reading our favourite books, watching films out of the huge selection that they were offering and eating some gourmet food. In the photo above you can see what the entree was. For the main course I would have taken a photo but I was so enjoying the food that I completely forgot about it (Oops!). What I managed to control this time was the amount of wine that we drank:-) Once you order a glass of wine you usually have a very friendly stewardess that is pouring the wine into your glass every time it is half full.

The flight is usually the pleasant part of a trip to the US. Once you land you should always try to get out of the plane as soon as possible. Depending on how fast you manage to do so, you can save up to half an hour clearing customs, because the queues that forms with every plane that lands shall not be underestimated. I know that many people have that urge to go to the restrooms right after stepping out of the plane, this shall be avoided too:-)

This time clearing customs went pretty well as we were not on a business trip and the lady that attended us was quite friendly.

Once outside, we called the transportation service that had to come and pick us up. We were quite lucky that it was a toll free number, as we are having some troubles calling US numbers from our German phones.
After a 20 minute wait the driver took as to the Farmington Hills Bosch office were they had prepared a welcome envelop with the keys of the rental car that was parked outside of the building and the keys to our temporary lodging. Once in our own car, we followed the driver to our apartment and he helped us out to find everything that we needed. I shall not forget that Lita had her first cultural shock when she was asked what language people speak in Spain xD.

Once in our own car, we followed the driver to our apartment (located in West Bloomfield) and he helped us out to find everything that we needed.
The first impression when we entered the apartment was quite good as it was warm and quite big for being a one bedroom apartment. To help a little bit imaging how it looks like we prepared a video and a top view of our new "love nest".

The video has no sound due to operator reasons:-) but I think that very few words are needed!

I hope you liked it! Next time I will try to write about our first impressions at work and some other things that we might do (like trying to buy a car!).
