Detroit - the motor city

 I guess you all have heard it in the news. Detroit is holding the North American International Auto Show for two weeks. This is of course an event that we cannot miss as we are working on two of the vehicles that are being showed there and that were released to the public just a couple of weeks ago.

The Show takes place in Cobo Center located in  Detroit Downtown. Detroit. This is one of the biggest convention centers in Michigan with a surface of 67,200 m2 named after the Albert E. Cobo, major of Detroit between 1950 and 1957 (during the golden years of Detroit)

The size of the show is not quite big (compared as well with the Frankfurt IAA) but it has the biggest car companies in the US with very spectacular cars that you usually cannot see in Europe ( I am not going to give my opinion whether they are beautiful or not...They are just different :-). Some of these are:
- Lincoln (MKC Concept)

- Buick (Enclave)

- Cadillac (ELR)

- Dodge (Dart II)

- GMC  (Acadia)

The most important european car prodrucers like VW, Mercedes, Audi and BMW were present as well, having a lot of public trying to get in to the luxury cars that where exposed like the new E-Class from Mercedes, the new Audi A8 L and the very nice BMW 4 Concept

In the US, Japanese cars are very well sold and represent a big share of the vehicle market. They have usually two stands. One of them for the "normal income people" and a different brand with their luxury line:
- Toyota <-> Scion
- Honda <-> Acura
- Nissan <-> Infiniti

Now, from my point of view here is our Top 4:

Number 4: Infiniti (Nissan) NSX

Number 3: Corvette

Number 2: RAM 1500 (one of the projects we are working on)

Number 1: Jeep Grand Cherokee Eco Diesel (the other project we are working on)

 They even had a video where you could briefly see how the engine and exhaust gas treatment system works

As you can see, our Top4 was not fully objective :)

After the show we toolk a very short walk with our italian friends in Detroit but the temperature was 14°F (-6°C) and very windy (the mediterranean people can not support cold temperatures very well xD). It is shoking to see how the buildings are abandoned and the streets almost have no people. There are many nice places to eat and during this kind of events you can see a lively city and the buildings that are mantained and well taken care off are beautiful with their art-deco and post-modern neogothic style.

This week I have talked too much about cars, but it is of course one of the main topics in our lives. I promise next week I will not talk about cars (unless I get myself a new one!).

Lots of love
